The Neeley Way

The Neeley Way starts (and finishes) with a handshake.

Over the years, the handshake has been replaced with written contracts and bidding documents, however the relationship with our client and the commitment that we make are met with serious attention. We know that our reputation and livelihood is made or lost on the ability to keeping the promise we make: an exceptional project.

Regardless of the delivery method or client, one can expect that this promise is based on clarified expectations, and is upheld with a high degree of adaptability, as we consistently demonstrate a great deal of flexibility to meet the needs of the project and the long-term needs of the client.

Safety

Safety is a top priority for Neeley, both on and off the job site. As Neeley continues to grow, so does our capacity for leadership in implementing “best practices” for safety and prevention. Our EMR and OSHA (WISHA) Lost Time Accident Rate for the past five years have continued to decline, putting Neeley at an all-time low of 0.6. We are very proud of this significant accomplishment.

Continuous improvement and implementation of recognized best safety practices is a consistent focus for Neeley resulting in a safety first culture while allowing us to continue to decrease this experience rating. Safety is enforced by all project superintendents and foremen, who incorporate initial and weekly training to new, rehired and current employees. We have equipped our office and job trailers with important and necessary safety manuals along with key safety equipment and supplies to ensure hazard free areas. We take great pride in our key project staff assuming leadership in this area to lead by example while directing their teams to follow proper protocol and the necessary steps for overall safety. It is Neeley Construction’s goal to send all employees home at night knowing their safety is our number one priority.

Quality Assurance/ Quality Control (QA/QC)

The Neeley Way resonates throughout the organization in our reputation and quality of work. The culture for quality construction at Neeley is at the highest levels. It is tightly intertwined with our respect for family tradition, and our love for the work and doing it well. When it comes to quality construction, our carpenters take pride in their work and have earned the title of “Craftsman.”

The consistency in supervision and accumulated years of experience are what make us Neeley Construction. Quality Control (QC) begins with our Superintendent and Foreman inspecting and studying the plans ahead of construction, which allows for proactive investigation of design issues or concerns that can then be proactively managed collaborating with the owner/architect and (if needed) subcontractors to resolve quickly while minimizing schedule/cost impact. It is not uncommon for a carpenter on a Neeley site to take extra care and add punchlist items to the known items list to ensure quality handoff as a result of the deeply rooted company culture of pride in the delivery of an exceptional project.

Neeley’s approach to QC during Construction is similar to the format developed and used by the Army Corps of Engineers, with three phases of control:

  • Pre-Construction: Preliminary meeting with each subcontractors’ Superintendent or Foreman to confirm familiarity with project plans, specifications, and approved submittals
  • Construction: Reviewing each Subcontractors QC reports during construction (pro-actively engaging various communications with stakeholders as applicable) and directing corrections as applicable
  • Final Inspections: Reviewing each Subcontractors drafted punch lists at the end

While simple in nature, the basis of a QA/QC program is to control and verify that the materials expected to be used in the project are in fact being used and the quality of workmanship being performed is per plan and specification. The Project Manager, Project Engineer, Superintendent and Foreman are all involved in the projects QC plan in some capacity with the authority to direct corrections to the work and materials being used to comply with the contract documents and project specifications.
